Neighborhoods throughout Hackettstown are invited to join over 38 million neighbors across 16 thousand communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. National Night Out is nationally sponsored by NATW, Ring, Dietz & Watson, Associa, AT&T, A&W Root Beer, Renewal By Andersen, Academy Sports & Outdoors, and co-sponsored locally by the Hackettstown Recreation Commission, Hackettstown Business Improvement District, Hackettstown Medical Center and Mars Wrigley, and Marley's Gotham Grill.
National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., neighbors throughout Hackettstown are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement. Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most communities celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more.
National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said, "This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation. On NNO, we invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us in Giving Crime & Drugs A Going Away Party.”
Come join the Hackettstown Police Department at the National Night Out event on Tuesday August 1, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at the Pool Field located next to the Hackettstown Community Pool (499 Warren St).
